White paper: From cyber attacks to resilience

In the face of the rise in cyberattacks targeting the healthcare sector, cybersecurity is no longer just another technical issue: it has become a strategic imperative. emeis publishes a white paper on this subject, the result of a collaborative effort by 26 contributors from different countries, departments and business lines within the Group.

The cyberattack: a wake-up call

In September 2020, the IT department’s teams detected an intrusion into the Group’s IT system. The incident acted as a wake-up call. On the one hand, it revealed the scale of the threat; on the other, it precipitated a shift in scale: that of an organisation now called upon to re-think itself in terms of resilience.

Since then, the Group has embarked on a fundamental transformation. This is a demanding journey, built on the mobilisation of teams, the development of skills across business lines and a continuous raising of standards. Strengthened governance, operational discipline and the promotion of a cyber culture: this momentum draws inspiration from the most robust benchmarks in the industrial world.

A white paper to explain and share

This white paper provides a concrete account of this journey. It outlines the key initiatives undertaken in recent years: large-scale awareness-raising, security by design, the overhaul of business processes, and the consolidation of in-house expertise. Behind these advances lies a firm conviction: cyber resilience cannot be imposed. It is built, step by step, over the long term, going far beyond the mere deployment of tools.

As the threat continues to evolve, the difference now lies in the ability to anticipate, coordinate and learn quickly.

At emeis, resilience has established itself as a collective capability, developed over the long term, in the service of a vital objective: ensuring the continuity of care and support, even under pressure.

This white paper is a collaborative effort born of a conviction: alone, we go faster; together, we go further. Following a major cyber incident in 2020, the Group undertook a comprehensive overhaul of its cybersecurity posture and systems. We wanted to share this experience of transformation, which benefits everyone, not only within the healthcare sector but beyond it too.
